Venue: Orange yoga, Crescent Bakery, 70 St Georges Place, Cheltenham, GL50 3PN
About the session:
The session will start with a breathing practice to help you connect to your body and mind. This will be followed by sound meditation with the focus on inner balance and harmony. We will wrap the session up with chocolate mindfulness meditation.
Instruments that will be used in the session:
Shamanic drum, ocean drum, steel tongue drum, crystal singing bowls, Koshi chimes, shakers.
What you need to bring:
Yoga mats, bolsters and blankets will be provided, however, you are more welcome to bring your own if you prefer. I like to bring my own pillow, for instance, for maximum comfort and coziness! Please also bring an extra layer (a hoodie or a jumper) as body temperature goes down during meditation, and some water to have after the session.

Mindfulness & Sound Meditation
Mindfulness is a mind-blowing mix of ancient Eastern wisdom and modern Western neuroscience. It has worked for millions of people over thousands of years, and has recently been backed up by research into the brain and its functions.
Mindfulness has a profound effect on the brain, influencing its structure, function, and chemistry in ways that promote well-being, emotional regulation, and cognitive flexibility. The only downside is that it's not a pill that you can take once and immediately feel better. Mindfulness is a practice and a way of living your life, so it requires commitment. Mindfulness meditation, the key aspect of this practice, is a form of mental training that requires effort.
This is where Sound comes into play. By listening to specific frequencies, such as those produced by singing bowls, gongs and drums, sound meditation helps the brain to quickly transition into more relaxed and focused states, enhancing mental clarity and reducing stress. The soothing, repetitive nature of sound leads to an immediate relaxation that counters the stress-induced fight-or-flight response, primarily managed by the sympathetic nervous system. And all you need to do is lie down, close your eyes and listen.
Combined, Mindfulness and Sound offer a much easier and quicker way to re-train your brain, so it becomes more resilient and able to deal with life changes and stress factors. Sound meditation lays out a perfect foundation for mindfulness meditation, as well as allowing time and space for the mind to take in the newly acquired knowledge of mindfulness theory.
